Throughout the decades following the creation of Japanese Western-style painting, a succession of artists worked to overcome various difficulties and eventually built a firm foundation for Japanese oil painting. Although people seldom have an opportunity to view their works these days, their historical value has gradually become clear. We hope you will enjoy this exhibition of their works,which are inhabited by a quiet and flexible beauty that is unaffected by the passage of time.
