To celebrate the 75th anniversary of the comic PEANUTS, known for characters like Snoopy and Charlie Brown, from July 16, we will be holding an event featuring the characters’ “quotes”!
It will consist of three perspectives, namely “Ten guest creators share quotes they treasure,” “Original items that bring quotes to life,” and “Casual dining for savoring both food and quotes,” based on many of the quotes appearing in the PEANUTS comics. Highly individual personalities like novelist and entertainer Nishida (of the comic duo Lalande) and the poet Saihate Tahi will serve as guest curators and fill Ginza Sony Park with quotes that resonated deeply with them.
Program
1. Ten guest creators share quotes they treasure
During the event, ten guest curators will display works inspired by quotes that appeared in the PEANUTS comic. Essayist Matsuura Yataro notes down his thoughts about PEANUTS in an essay, while novelist and entertainer Nishida (Lalande) captures Snoopy’s struggles to write a novel from his unique perspective. Aoba Ichiko, a musician, prepared an exhibition where visitors can enjoy works selected by her together with their audio readings. The works created from quotes that the ten curators were moved by and wish to treasure will be available to enjoy in the exhibition space from PARK B2/Basement 2 to 4F.
2. Original items that bring quotes to life
In addition to Ginza Sony Park original merch, the limited-edition shop set up next to the exhibition space in PARK B2/Basement 2 will also offer fashion items such as T-shirts and caps curated by fashion director/stylist Akio Hasegawa—who participated in the exhibition as a guest curator—featuring select words that stood out to him from the works, as well as plates designed by Sakiko Hirano, with quotes she chose from the works. Be sure to check out the special items that can be found here and nowhere else.
(Details about the original goods will be released on Ginza Sony Park’s official Instagram once available)
3. Casual dining for savoring both food and words
A limited-time PEANUTS-themed collab menu specially crafted to match this event will be available at 1/2 (Nibun no Ichi), the casual dining Japanese-style Western cuisine restaurant at PARK B3/Basement 3. The collab menu is comprised of six different dishes inspired by the characters and memorable quotes of Charlie Brown, Snoopy, and the rest of the PEANUTS gang.
The menu stays true to the concept of 1/2 (Nibun no Ichi)—”A Little Less, So Much More”— and reimagines classic yoshoku (Japanese-style Western cuisine) dishes like omurice, hamburger steaks and hayashi rice through the world of PEANUTS, with American-inspired twists. In addition to the food itself, the original placemats set on the table at serving time, and quotes printed in the original menu book are also worth looking out for.
You can visit 1/2 (Nibun no Ichi) without an admission ticket. Enjoy a unique food experience different from the regular menu, only available while the event lasts.
