69th Teppozu Inari-jinja Shrine “Kanchu Misogi” Cold Water Bathing Festival

A cold water bathing festival known as “Kanchu Misogi” has been held on the grounds of Teppozu Inari-jinja Shrine since it was started in 1955 by the late Honorary Chief Priest Masamitsu Nakagawa. This festival, said to be a New Year’s tradition of Chuo City, serves to purify one’s mind and body in the cold water as an expression of gratitude in the presence of the local guardian deity.

Date & Time: Sunday, January 14, 2024, 11:00 a.m.
An explanation of event precautions will begin at 10:30, and the festival will begin at 11:00.
  • *The 69th Teppozu Inari-jinja Shrine Cold Water Bathing Festival will be open to participation from the general public for the first time in four years.
  • General visitors are welcome to view the event on the grounds of the shrine.
