GINZA Q&A

Are there rules about putting out garbage in Ginza?

There are no trash cans on the street in Ginza, and so everyone is asked to take their garbage home with them.

To business operators:
In 1997, the Ginza Street Association and Tokyo Metropolitan Government Bureau of Environment selected eight waste collection and transportation companies to achieve Clean Neighborhood Ginza
and established the Ginza Clean Recycle (GCR) Council.
Regarding business waste, the GCR Council
carries out activities such as licensed service explanation and application to create a more beautiful environment in Ginza.

Also, the Council set the rule that you must “put garbage bags in lidded trash cans to take out” in 2019. (Ginza-wide Waste Disposal Rule)
Strictly following this rule makes the streets cleaner and is very effective against crime and fires. Your cooperation and understanding are greatly appreciated.
