GINZA Q&A

Does the Ginza neighborhood carry out disaster control measures?

In Ginza, the Ginza Association established a Disaster Control Committee that carries out various activities to teach domestic and international visitors and workers in Ginza the basic initial actions to take in a disaster.
In fiscal 2024, it published a Ginza Moshimo Bosai Map (Ginza Emergency Disaster Management Map) to provide basic information about disaster management in Ginza and initial actions to take in a disaster. It explains that Ginza has been designated a “Remaining Area within the District” and lists the facilities that will take in people who have become stranded in Chuo City.

In fiscal 2025, the committee carried out measures to prevent furniture from falling over. Furniture toppling in offices and shops costs lives. As concrete measures, the committee cooperated with the Kyobashi Fire Department to create a video called, “Life-saving measures to prevent furniture from falling over.”
In addition, CHUO FM broadcasts the AMAZING GINZA corner every second and fourth Thursday (from around 12:00 ‒ 12:15 p.m.), and Disaster Control Committee members have been coming on the show since July 2025 to explain disaster management words and phrases.
Past topics have been:
・ Who does “stranded people” refer to?
・ Positioning of the Remaining Area within the District and required actions
・ Locations and functions of temporary places to stay and temporary lodging facilities
・ Locations and roles of disaster management bases

The Committee will continue strengthening self-help and mutual help in Ginza by holding workshops and symposiums, planning drills, and sharing information with everyone who visits or works in Ginza.
